Personally I think the Lava Bow is incredibly useful for PvE, especially for Faith builds as they tend to lack both ranged abilities as well as fire damage. The scaling on faith weapons are pretty crappy still. You get more dps from the normal paths and having either Str or Dex up. Buffs are just meant to amplify damage further, which you can't do with the faith path if i'm not mistaken. While yes, people may run, its still a nice way to amp the damage.
